Different Types of User Accounts

Regular University Accounts

Regular university accounts are used for doing your day-to-day tasks such as email, using the Internet, Microsoft 365 applications and Outlook, etc. All university faculty, staff and students have a regular account created at the time of employment or enrollment. Some faculty and staff may have additional accounts (such as a service account) based on their positions and responsibilities.

Person of Interest Accounts

Our university offers accounts for Persons of Interest (POI), including volunteer faculty, off-campus work-study employers, employees of CU Medicine and UCH, users from another university campus, or visiting scholars. To request a POI account, please contact your Department Human Resources representative.

Service Accounts

If you are a University of Colorado employee and need a user account to run a particular service or application, a testing account, or a shared account for your department, please request a service account via the Service Accounts webpage (campus network or VPN required to submit).

You can also learn more about service accounts on our ISIC webpage

Sponsored User Accounts

Sponsored user accounts have been sunset as of April 1, 2026. Please see Person of Interest (POI).
