Description:

Physical departmental servers are hosted in data centers on the CU Denver and CU Anschutz campuses. These data centers feature redundant power, cooling, and secure data center access. Services included in the cost are rack space, network connectivity, system administration, proactive monitoring, and monthly operating system patching.

Virtual servers are offered as an alternative to physical servers. They function as an independent server on a single physical server and in many cases are more cost effective than physical servers. Services included in the cost are physical redundancy, system administration, network connectivity, proactive monitoring, and monthly operating system patching. Additional storage, processors, and RAM, beyond what is included in the default configuration can be requested.

How to proceed: 

  • Click on the Request a Virtual Server button on the right to access the Prime Service Catalog to submit your request for a new virtual server. Upon submission, you will be provisioned a virtual server automatically. Once the virtual server is built, you will need to also submit the "Request Data Center Server Management" service form for next steps. 
     
  • Click on the Request Data Center Server Management button on the right to request data center server management services. You will need to provide details on the server inclusive of technical specifications. Our teams will setup the required networking, firewalling, cabling, and more depending on the details you provide. 
     

Additional resources:

  • Departments are provided with 100 GB of storage, 1 processor, and 4 GB of RAM on the initial server configuration.  Additional server storage is charged at $0.05/GB per month. If your department or Center requires storage in addition to what is already provided, you are able to purchase that additional storage for a monthly rate. 
     
  • Faculty and staff can contact IT Partners to request access to a departmental shared drive and/or request an individual home directory. File server usage is billed at a per GB per month rate. In addition, 100 GB of cloud storage is provided through OneDrive for Business.
