Create, edit, revise, and summarize content via AI chat. ChatGPT Edu is provided by the university for free to eligible faculty, staff and students (students will be eligible for access in August 2026). Learn more about eligibility, this tool and the university initiative on our project webpage.
The CU instance of ChatGPT Edu is approved for university use with public, confidential data and highly confidential data on both the CU Denver and CU Anschutz campuses. Responsible use of AI is crucial to protect data and information systems. Please ensure that you are logged into the university account before inputting any information to guarantee security and compliance.
Users need to follow the process below in order to gain access to CU's ChatGPT Edu. Personal ChatGPT accounts are not secure to use with university information.

Ineligible: Persons of interest (POI), contractors, temporary workers, working retirees, emeritus roles, volunteers who are not official employees, unpaid or courtesy academic appointments (e.g., adjunct, visiting, museum-related roles), contract or grant-funded staff paid with external funding, admitted but not enrolled students (including confirmed students who have accepted admission and paid a deposit but are not yet enrolled), active but not enrolled students, alumni, visiting or non-degree/continuing education students, and volunteers or trainees who are not enrolled students.
Cost:
Free, with a pay-as-you-go model coming later in 2026 for advanced features such as thinking & pro models.
How to access the service:
- Click the Access ChatGPT Edu button to be redirected to the guide for obtaining access.
- Click the Request ChatGPT Edu Support button to submit a ticket if you have questions about ChatGPT and need to talk to someone.
