The CU instance of ChatGPT Edu is approved for university use with public, confidential data and highly confidential data on both the CU Denver and CU Anschutz campuses. Responsible use of AI is crucial to protect data and information systems. Please ensure that you are logged into the university account before inputting any information to guarantee security and compliance.
Users need to follow the process below in order to gain access to CU's ChatGPT Edu. Personal ChatGPT accounts are not secure to use with university information.

Ineligible: Persons of interest (POI), contractors, temporary workers, working retirees, emeritus roles, volunteers who are not official employees, unpaid or courtesy academic appointments (e.g., adjunct, visiting, museum-related roles), contract or grant-funded staff paid with external funding, admitted but not enrolled students (including confirmed students who have accepted admission and paid a deposit but are not yet enrolled), active but not enrolled students, alumni, visiting or non-degree/continuing education students, and volunteers or trainees who are not enrolled students.
Cost:
Free with plus-level features including reasoning models and increased image generation.
How to proceed:
- Click the Access ChatGPT Edu button to be redirected to the guide for obtaining access.
- Click the Request ChatGPT Edu Agentic Features & Microsoft Plugins button to submit a ticket to be granted access to agentic features like Work and Codex and receive access to Microsoft Plugins for eligible users that have already gotten access to ChatGPT Edu. An IT Professional will review your submission during regular business hours in accordance to Service Level Objectives.
- Click the Request ChatGPT Edu Add-Ins (ChatGPT for Word, Excel and PowerPoint) button to submit a ticket to be granted access to the ChatGPT Edu Add-Ins (ChatGPT for Word, Excel and PowerPoint). An IT Professional will review your submission during regular business hours in accordance to Service Level Objectives.
- Click the Request ChatGPT Edu CU Denver Student-Faculty Codex Sponsorship button to submit a ticket for a CU Denver student to be granted access to Codex by a faculty member sponsorship. An IT Professional will review your submission during regular business hours in accordance to Service Level Objectives.
- Click the Request ChatGPT Edu Support button to submit a ticket if you have questions about ChatGPT and need to talk to someone. An IT professional will review your ticket during business hours and respond within established service expectations.
- Click on Request ChatGPT Edu Exception if you need exception-based access to ChatGPT Edu for a CU Anschutz or CU Denver-affiliated individual who is ineligible for standard access. This is reviewed on a case-by-case basis and submitting the form does not guarantee access will be granted.
